Following our gig for the PMA Charity in the summer the following write up was produced and included in the National PMA Charity News Letter, and Press Releases;

PMA Band Night in Wakefield

The end of Summer blues were well and truly beaten at the PMA’s first ever Band Night in Wakefield on Friday 30th August. The event was held at Wakefield Sports and Social Club, The PMA’s Yorkshire HQ and nerve centre.

More than 100 people turned up to shake their booty to the fabulous sounds of local band The Turnarounds. The band gave their time freely to support the cause because of band member Ben’s family connection to the Wakefield Pumas. We are eternally grateful because they did us proud – and then some!

The Turnarounds played 2 great sets including a variety of rock, soul and blues from across the decades. There was something for everyone and even the golden oldies were up on their feet, strutting their stuff with the best of ‘em. The place was rocking. There were some unique dance moves never seen before (Janette and friends, you know who you are!).

In time honoured, good, old Yorkshire tradition a delicious Pie and Pea Supper was served which fuelled us all to keep on bopping till the midnight hour, in the words of Wilson Pickett.

Nick and Daryl, members of the Wakefield Pumas, presided over the raffle to ensure there was no foul play. And if Nick ever wanted to branch out into a career in bingo calling there’s no doubt he could make a go of it – it’s the way he says the numbers!

We made around £1400 on the night which is brilliant. There’s increasing awareness and lots of support for the great work the PMA academy does here in Yorkshire.

So a massive THANK YOU to The Turnarounds, to all who helped on the night and to all those who came and got into the swing of things so wholeheartedly. There’s talk of another Band Night at Christmas so that gives us all time to keep practising those dance moves….. Glastonbury, eat your heart out!

Got something to say?
